France is one of the most frequently chosen tourist destinations by many Poles. Why? Because the most beautiful monuments in France they are second to none. These include, among others:

  • Picturesque Chambord Castle – there are, among others, a spiral staircase, the originator and contractor of which was to be Leonardo da Vinci himself; the outer part of the building is decorated with the characteristic coat of arms of Francis I, ie the letter “F” and a salamander; noteworthy is also the stronghold, the construction of which took 15 years (!) and over 1.8 thousand craftsmen and workers participated in it;

  • City of Tours – referred to as Paris in miniature, because in terms of architecture it resembles the great capital of France and its inhabitants use only French – it is said to be the purest form of this dialect; the city attracts attention with well-kept beautiful parks, wide 18th-century avenues and a huge university educating over 30,000 students;
  • Castles in the Loire Valley

These are 4 buildings mainly of a defensive nature. They attract attention with their appearance and invite you to familiarize yourself with them. The list of these monuments includes:

  • Chenonceau Castle – comes from the 16th century; the complex consists of: a moat, a drawbridge, towers and shooting towers (although the purpose of the latter is greatly exaggerated), which give the building a truly fabulous appearance; the interiors are filled with period furniture, a huge amount of paintings and tapestries;
  • Castle in Villandry – the most impressive thing is not the castle itself, but … the garden around it, described as the most magnificent in all of France (!); Jardin d’Ornement, or the Decorative Garden, is a very – and seemingly complicated – composition of appropriately trimmed shrubs, hedges and flower beds; to make it easier to navigate, everyone receives a special map in English at the entrance;
  • Castle d’Azay-le-Rideau – not only the castle itself deserves attention, but also its location, it is located on a small island on the Indre River; the complex includes: stylized and richly decorated fortifications and turrets;
  • Langeais Castle – the building dates from the 60s of the 15th century and it served as a defensive fortification against the attack by Brittany; the complex consists of: a raw stronghold, a drawbridge, a courtyard with the remains of a building with large windows, dormer windows and decorative stonework – proof that at that time more attention was paid to aesthetics than to other dimensions of the buildings, the ruins of the dungeon.
  • Cathedral of Angers – it is a Renaissance religious building; it is in the area designated as Anjou; the cathedral is famous for the famous tapestry stored there depicting scenes from the Apocalypse of St. John.
