Some historians believe that the name of this ancient village is related to an ancient Egyptian name goddess of Isisand others believe that it comes from the Latin Visia or Avisium – this is how the observation points in the mountains were called in ancient Rome.
Fortress, built during the times Caesaras an eagle’s nest rises on a rock 427 m above sea level. Its oldest part is on the top of a hill overlooking the Ligurian Sea.
Attractions Eze.
Eze is one of the most beautiful places on the Cote d’Azur. The streets and houses of the town are unique. Éze has so narrow streets that the houses are built into the rocks, and it is difficult for several people to pass each other.
On the ground floors of the houses there are shops, stalls, miniature cafes, and the owners live on the floors. Eze’s narrow streets emphasize the picturesque view of the village, go upstairs and lead to the whitewashed chapel and church – these monuments are certainly noteworthy.
In Eze you can also visit the most famous perfumery “Fragonard”.
Jewels of Eze.
In the exotic botanical garden, visitors can see the gems of various plants, including cacti, gathered here. A visit to Eze is an unforgettable experience for the senses. The garden offers great views of the bay – when the skies are clear, you can see Saint-Tropez on one side and Corsica on the other.
Along the picturesque road, planted with pine trees and olive trees, you can reach a steep rock that breaks off the seashore. Eze supposedly belonged to beloved places Walt Disneya Alfred Hitchcock in one of the films he shot the scene of the road over the cliff.
The carefully restored village is now one of the most visited places on this stretch of the coast and it lives mainly from tourism and the sale of handicrafts.
