France in October weather and temperatures

France is located in two climatic zones – Mediterranean subtropics and temperate. Its location as well as the size of the country and the fact that it is covered with seas on three sides make the climate very diverse in its area. These differences are also influenced by the presence of the Alps in the south-eastern regions exceeding 4,000 meters above sea level. However, you can find some features that are common to the whole country in French weather. The climate here is mild, with dry summers and more rainfall in spring and autumn. On the other hand, winters, apart from the Alps, are rather humid and quite warm.

Weather in France in October

October is the month when the weather in France is still very warm and pleasant. Even in the more severe climate of the Alpine regions, greater drops in temperature and greater snowfall do not appear until November. On the other hand, the amount of precipitation is increasing throughout the country, which in the northern and western coastal regions takes up to a third of a month. It is much clearer in the south. On the Riviera you can still swim in the sea, although here the weather can go bad for a few days and show only cloudy skies and rainfall.

Temperatures in France in October

October is a warm month in France, and even a very warm one on the south coast. Although it is not as hot here as in summer, the temperature rarely drops below 20 degrees Celsius and the water temperature in the Mediterranean Sea encourages you to swim. You can still sunbathe here in the afternoon hours. In turn, further into the country the temperatures are a few degrees lower but still very rarely drop below 10 degrees. Rather, they oscillate around 15 degrees. During the day, there are even times when the sun shines so strongly that temperatures exceed 20 degrees. In October, it gets colder in the Alps. However, even at high altitudes, the temperature does not drop significantly until the beginning of November. Distribution of average temperatures in October in France
